Hey Everyone! We have finally come to the part of our RTW (round-the-world) trip that will test us like nothing else has or will. We are heading out on a 2-month long Africa overland trip with Oasis Overland! We are excited to see unbelievable scenery and animals in wild, but we’re also a little nervous, as we will be camping 95% of ... Read More »

The goal for our RTW trip is to keep spending to under $100 USD/day. We assumed Myanmar would be fairly cheap with it being SE Asia and still fairly untraveled as a whole. However, once we started looking at accommodations we realized it might be a bit more expensive than we expected. Accommodations were going to be at the high ... Read More »

Comments Off on Long Boat Cruisin’ on Inle Lake
As we stated in a previous post, we booked our trip to Myanmar without any actual plans in place. We discussed making Myanmar part of our original itinerary and then it got dropped because we didn’t want to deal with the hassle of visa issues in advance of our departure from the U.S. However, while in Bali we realized Myanmar ... Yes folks, you read that correctly. We went all the way to Myanmar to visit a winery, sort of. After arriving in Nyaung Shwe (near Inle Lake), we were feeling rather “templed out” from the previous four days in Bagan and found ourselves in search of an alternate activity. A quick search revealed there was a winery nearby and we were sold! ... Read More »

For those not familiar with our play on words here, the phrase “freezin’ for a reason” is used in some places for events such as a polar plunge to help raise money for a good cause. And for those not aware of what a ‘polar plunge’ is, it is basically a bunch of crazy people (me included) jumping into a ... Read More »

We made it to 2015 AND passed 100 days on the road! While 2015 was inevitable, making it 100 days on the road was more of a challenge. We may have had a few arguments, which we figured would happen, but overall we feel pretty good. It is hard to believe we landed in Japan over three months ago! We ... Read More »

We arrived in Bagan with almost no plans other than wanting to catch a sunrise and sunset at some point. And ideally we would find a quiet spot away from the usual tourist hotspots which wouldn’t require fighting for space. We found a pagoda to climb for each of these that gave us exactly what we were hoping for. 🙂 ... Read More »

Bagan, Myanmar is easily one of the most picturesque cities we have ever visited. While it’s nearly impossible to visit the 3,100+ pagodas and temples in one trip, you can visit a number of them by renting e-bikes, bicycles or hiring a guide/driver. Walking is possible, but you won’t make it very far as the sights are spread out quite ... Read More »

We sat in our Yangon guesthouse thinking, “What the heck are we still doing here?” After four days in Yangon, the last two with basically no internet, we were questioning our decision on coming to Myanmar. Our first couple days in the city were busy with seeing pagodas and taking the circle train around town, but we weren’t digging the ... Read More »

Merry Christmas! We’re celebrating in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Even though it’s a sunny and beautiful 85 degrees today we were lucky enough to find snow, sort of. The snow is made from bags of SALT! It’s not packable and you can’t build a snowman, but we did see plenty of “salt castles!” Merry Christmas from us to you. We hope you ... Read More »
