Memorial Day Getaways

With Spring Break officially behind us, it’s time to set our focus on our next getaway. Memorial Day Weekend, the unofficial start to summer!

Since we’re both fortunate to have long weekends off from work, we’re thinking a flight is totally doable this year. We’ve narrowed it down to these four spots and they’re actually all places we have visited before. We look forward to the ease of having a sense of direction and knowing our favorite spots already.

Las Vegas

We’ve visited this city more times than we can count. But fear not, there is always something to do in the Entertainment Capital of the World. If we head to Vegas, the plan is to eat, relax, gamble and take in a show. Maybe a little sleep mixed in as well. We always try to catch a show when we visit and are thinking this is the year for the Michael Jackson Cirque du Soleil show. The summer weather should be in full force by Memorial Day, so there is a lot of poolside lounging in our plans too. Our favorite thing about Vegas? The fact that you can win enough money to cover the cost of your entire trip. Now, that is a deal. 😉

Where we’ll stay: The Palazzo

Booking this hotel through the DOSH app earns us $103.31 in cash back for a 3-night stay. Our main reason for choosing this hotel is its pool. Since the majority of our daylight hours will be spent poolside, we wanted to pick a spot with plenty of room for the Memorial Day Weekend crowds.

Miami was never really on our radar until we spent a few days there before our Fathom Travel cruise. We thought Miami was all South Beach (which isn’t our scene) but there is so much more to the city than that. We LOVE the Wynwood neighborhood. The street art is amazing and there are plenty of blocks to explore. We stumbled up one of the best jalapeño margaritas we’ve ever had at Wynwood Kitchen and loved the beer at Wynwood Brewing Company. There are plenty of artsy shops to browse too. We also really liked Little Havana. We took part in an organized tour and learned a lot from our guide. Little Havana is full of history and has plenty of tasty Cuban food, obviously.

Where we’ll stay: Homewood Suites by Hilton

Booking this hotel through the DOSH app earns us $93.24 in cash back for a 3-night stay. We actually love Homewood Suites because the suites come with a kitchenette. We wake up early so it’s nice to be able to make coffee in the room and have a healthy breakfast. This also allows to budget more for lunch, dinner and happy hour!

New York City

While the locals generally flee the city for the holiday weekend, we think it’s a great time to visit. Generally, it’s not too hot yet and there isn’t a line to be found anywhere. The only downside is there are a lot of local spots that close up for the weekend too. We haven’t been back in nearly 10 years, so there would actually be a lot of sightseeing we could do. We’d definitely plan to visit The National September 11 Memorial & Museum. Assuming there is good weather, visits to Central Park and the High Line are on the list too.

Where we’ll stay: Cassa Hotel

Booking this hotel through the DOSH app earns us $100.38 cash back for a 3-night stay. Located on 45th street, this hotel has a great location. Plus, there is a really laid back lounge area to relax in after a long day of sightseeing.

We LOVE Seattle! We’ve actually spent Memorial Day Weekend there before. While we know Seattle has changed a ton in the last few years, we would definitely start our weekend at our favorite brunch spot, Portage Bay Cafe. We’d also head back to Alki beach. It was a lively area and nice spot to soak up some sun. This trip would also be the time we finally get to Gas Works Park and explore the Ballard neighborhood, as we never got around to those in previous trips. Of course, there would be plenty of time for microbrews, coffee, and kombucha.

Where we’ll stay: Hotel Andra

Booking Hotel Andra through the DOSH app earns us $96.26 in cash back for a 3-night stay. This hotel is really close to Pike Place Market which is a must visit on every trip to Seattle.

Download the DOSH app today! It’s now the #1 shopping app in the iTunes store!

As we’ve mentioned before, DOSH is an app that earns you cash back on purchases you make. You simply link your credit cards to the DOSH app and when you pay with a linked credit card at a participating restaurant, hotel, etc., you earn cash back automatically. Your cash back balance is stored in the app and you can take a pay out once you’ve earned $15 or more.

Plus, if you haven’t used DOSH to book a hotel before, you’ll get an extra $25 cash back after your first stay.

And remember, you can always donate your DOSH to a charity of your choice!
