So, What’s Next?

Alana and Matt in Bali, Indonesia

Ready for more!

We have been a bit quiet lately, especially with our future plans. And honestly, it’s because we simply didn’t know what exactly was next for us. Some different opportunities presented themselves, but we couldn’t make up our minds as we were juggling a few different ideas.

However, everything came together a few weeks ago and we’re ready to share! We are hitting the road again in a couple weeks with a quick stop in England, since we didn’t get enough time there on our return trip to the U.S. in June. After seeing the sights in London for a few days, we will be heading back to…

Turkey

Uzumlu Turkey

Uzumlu, Turkey

If you are reading this and thought, “wait, weren’t you guys just in Turkey?”, you are correct. We are heading back to our favorite little village – Uzumlu! We really enjoyed our month long housesit and when another opportunity came up on Trusted Housesitters, we jumped at it!

We’ll be caring for a dog, a tortoise and several kitties! We are looking forward to seeing some friends and enjoying the hot, hot, hot Turkish weather. Hopefully we’ll get a chance to reconnect with these guys, and finally get to know their mom and dad!

Austria

We found a great deal on flights from Turkey and will kick off part two of our Euro-trip in Vienna! We will be working with a few partners in the area during our time there, so we are pretty pumped to experience this historic city.

On top of exploring the city and culture, it’s harvest time in the Vienna vineyards! We plan on staying at and checking out multiple Vienna heurigers (Austrian wine taverns) to enjoy fresh wine, music and local food.

Slovenia

From Vienna, we’ll be catching a train to Ljubljiana (don’t worry, we had to look up how to pronounce it too), picking up a car and taking a road trip through Slovenia. We have no official plans here, so we’ll be winging it. 🙂

Croatia

Croatia has been on our short list of countries for visiting and we think we found the perfect time for a visit. Hey Matt, how does celebrating your birthday aboard a Croatian Cruise sound? 😉

Spain

Barcelona, Spain

Why Barcelona? Tapas and wine, of course. 🙂

Another reason for Barcelona? We found a cheap flight out to our final destination for 2015.

Which is…

Guatemala

We’ll be spending six weeks exploring Antigua and all that the Lake Atitlan area has to offer.

We are super excited to base ourselves in one spot, especially after jumping around Europe for a couple months. Lake Atitlan is the deepest lake in Central America and is flanked by three volcanos. We’ll be staying just outside one of the surrounding villages.

Can you believe this view? We were able to find this gem on Airbnb and knew it was for us! Morning coffee might be lasting a bit longer than usual I think. 🙂

Our time in Guatemala will conclude our 2015 travels. We’ll be heading back to our home state of Wisconsin in December, just in time for a white Christmas. Ho, Ho, Ho.

Have you been to any of these locations? We’d love to hear your suggestions. Post them in the comments below or send us a message!

  1. How exciting! We’ve got some really great Airbnb recommendations for both Slovenia and Croatia – shoot us an e-mail if you are interested. 🙂 Look forward to following your adventures (I’ll be following along from my desk at work *sigh*). -Jess

  2. Now that’s a great travel plan! That river in Slovenia looks amazing!

We hope you’ll also include the Philippines in your future travels. 🙂

    • Definitely! Slovenia is a place we hadn’t thought much about, but we are looking forward to it. And we would love to get back to the Philippines again, we spent about three weeks there earlier this year. We loved the Palawan area, spent time in El Nido, Cebu and Alona Beach. Beautiful country!

  3. i can’t wait to see your new posts! If we can take care of your dental needs before you leave Wisconsin, let me know!

    • Hi Amy! Thanks for the offer, although we are set for the time being when it comes to our teeth. We can’t wait to get back on the road, although leaving our electric toothbrush at home is not something we are looking forward to…but, we’ll be reunited again in December! Lots of pics to come 🙂

  4. Hi Matt and Alana,

It sounds like you have some very exciting travels planned. And all those lovely animals to house sit with should be a lot of fun.

As a Brit, I hope that you have an opportunity to explore outside of London whilst you are here. Whilst London is an amazing city it is not the real England. You need to go outside of London to see what the rest of us are really like.

    • Hello! We would love to get outside of London but it will have to wait until another time. This London trip is simply a stop over from flight hacking. We look forward to spending some extended time in England and the UK in the future!
