Hello from the Canary Islands! We’re on the island of Tenerife for the week. It’s been a little rainy and cloudy so far, but that is supposed to change and the sun should be shining for the rest of the week starting later today!
First off, check out our new travel resources page. A list of our go-to tools and resources for making travel easier.
Since I last updated you we have been having an absolute blast in Spain!
We spent two busy weeks housesitting in Barcelona, which was our fourth housesit after our previous stop in Bali and two sits in Turkey. We enjoyed the company of three lovely kitties in a very centrally located flat, which was walking distance from virtually everything we needed.
So, Barcelona – We. LOVED. It.
Cool restaurants, fun bars, tapas, wine, cava and vermouth…we visited, we ate, and we tried it all. We may have over done it a couple times…oops. A few minor hangovers were had, but nothing a few cat cuddles couldn’t cure. 🙂
We also did a ton of sightseeing. We rode the big sightseeing bus on four different occasions, took part in an eBike tour and thoroughly explored Antoni Gaudí’s architecture all around the city.
We also found out Homeland is available on Netflix in Spain. We got hooked and will be finishing the first three seasons before leaving Tenerife.
Anyone want to lend us the fourth season when we get home in December? 🙂
What was our favorite part of Barcelona?
We participated in a dinner through EatWith.com., and you might remember we did something similar in the Philippines last fall.
This time around, we enjoyed a delicious dinner at Eva and Olga’s beautiful home. Seriously, the food was so good. However, the best part of the evening was meeting new people from around the world and sharing our different stories and backgrounds. We really lucked out with our group and we now have new friends in Spain, Hawaii and Australia!
We’d highly recommend taking part in this type of activity on your next trip. Use our link for $10 off your first dinner. EatWith is alive in the U.S. too! So, even if you aren’t traveling, maybe your city has EatWith hosts, which could make for a really fun date night or night out with a group of friends.
What’s next?
We’ll be living the island life in Tenerife for the next week before we return to Barcelona for a couple nights. And by this time next week we will have made our way to Guatemala!
Guatemala is our last stop before we head back to the U.S. for Christmas with our families. We’ll be in the colonial city of Antigua for a few days and then renting an apartment via Airbnb on Lake Atitlan for nearly five weeks!
We’ll be a bit off the grid during this time, so we’re working on building a massive Apple Music playlist to download and use offline.
We need your help! We’re way out of touch with new music. We’d love any and all suggestions you might have. Please leave them in the comments below or shoot us a message through our contact page. Gracias!
Adiós for now!

Check out Jason Isbell. He is all that I am listening to right now.
I remember seeing a CBS Sunday Morning story on him but forget to check him out. Will add his stuff now, thanks Vicki!
We LOVE LOVE Barcelona, Antigua, and Lago so you will enjoy them all I am sure of it! So sad we are missing you in Central America, we HOPE to be back. We are hoping to get a 2 bedroom and maybe rent out the other bedroom (Hint hint).
Talk soon guys!
I hear everyone loves those places in Guatemala. I’m just looking forward to being there already. We have a nightmare flight coming up. 🙂 Is the road trip about to pick up again?
